Hey! I’m Caitlin. I’m a UX designer currently working at Raytheon Intelligence and Space. At heart, I’m a problem solver and an artist. I believe my empathetic and forward way of thinking helps my designs to flourish as human-centered, joy-inducing systems. I’d love to bring my unique skills to your team!

FIND A PROBLEM

PROCESS

From the time I was 8 years old to my senior year in high school, I participated in a national extracurricular called Future Problem Solving. The method we utilized encouraged us to research various topics and discover problems within unique situations. This hobby truly strengthened my critical thinking skills. I utilize this process in my UXD work every single day. Like the FPS method, I try to uncover a variety of problems within the SOUs and audiences I design for. I aim to find problems that affect various aspects of users’ lives including: ethical, physical, psychological, and social.

FALL IN LOVE

Instead of falling in love with solutions, I fall in love with problems. Don’t get me wrong, I love pushing my ideas. However, if my designs don't solve anyone's problems, it’s more for me than my users. Breaking down a problem is paramount to what I do, and really helps me to empathize with others. I want to put myself in the user’s shoes —see what they see, feel what they feel. I believe you really need to experience their frustration. How is the user making their decisions? What is leading them to their assumptions? All of this is part of falling in love with a problem.

FULFILL NEEDS

Finally, after I’ve determined issues and exhausted each pain point, I can embark on design. There are many things I love about the design process. My favorite, however, is the unlimited nature of it. Design is never done! We can always improve. I can employ my critcal thinking skills again and again. There’s nowhere to go but up! With every iteration, we can fulfill more needs. It’s a neverending source of satisfaction and joy. There’s always someone in need of my designs.
